Grand Canyon Hotels at the South Rim
Inside Grand Canyon National Park
The Grand Canyon South Rim is located about 200 miles from the Grand Canyon North Rim. We recommend you visit the Grand Canyon south rim and north rim separately. Ideally, you should spend at least a full day at each rim to enjoy the awesome natural beauty of the Grand Canyon. It will be too tight to visit both rims in one day. Grand Canyon National Park south entrance is located in Tusayan which is about 7 miles from the Grand Canyon South Rim.
Grand Canyon National Park east entrance Desert View is about 26 miles from the Grand Canyon South Rim.
Room rates are set by the National Park Service. There is no discount at all. Everybody has to pay the same price for lodges in the Park. Most facilities are rustic lodges or motel style rooms. El Tovar is a Hotel. All lodges are within walking distance of the South Rim.

Compared with the rustic lodges inside the National Park, these are modern hotels or motels.
If you have a car, it is convenient to stay in these hotels to visit the Grand Canyon. Since the National Park Admission is valid for seven days, it does not cost you more to reenter the Park.

Williams Arizona is about 60 miles south from the Grand Canyon South Rim. It takes about one hour to drive from Williams to the Grand Canyon South Rim. Williams Arizona is the gateway to the Grand Canyon. No matter you come from Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles or Denver, you will pass Williams Arizona on your way to the Grand Canyon South Rim. Some people will stay in a hotel in Williams Arizona one night before going to the Grand Canyon South Rim. For busy seasons, when people can not find hotel rooms at the Grand Canyon South Rim or in Tusayan, they will book hotels in Williams.

The current Grand Canyon Railway Hotel was built in 1995 and was designed to resemble the historic Fray Marcos Hotel. The hotel opened as, and continues to be, the finest hotel in Williams. The Grand Canyon Railway Hotel sits across the lawn from the historic Grand Canyon Railway Depot. In keeping with the reputation of the original Fray Marcos Hotel for quality and service, the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel continues this fine tradition. A 107-room addition was completed in February, 2000 doubling the size of the property and added an indoor pool, jacuzzi and exercise room. A third addition was completed in March, 2004, adding 92 rooms and 10 suites.
Grand Canyon Railway Hotel now has 287 guest rooms and 10 suites. It has a heated indoor pool, a jacuzzi, a fitness room and game room complete with video games and pinball. There is also a playground outside of the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel for children.
Grand Canyon Railway Hotel has a lobby with maple wood balustrades, an enormous flagstone fireplace, and oil paintings of the Grand Canyon by local artist Kenneth McKenna. Adjacent to the lobby, you can enjoy fine spirits in Spensers Lounge. The lounge is the signature room in the hotel and features a custom handcrafted mahogany bar built in the late 1800s and brought over from Europe.
The historic train runs 65 miles from Williams to the Grand Canyon which takes approximately 2 hours 15 minutes one-way.

Jacob Lake is the gateway to Grand Canyon National Park North Rim. Jacob Lake is located in the North Kaibab National Forest at the at the junction of US 89A and AZ highway 67 in Arizona, 44 miles north of the Grand Canyon north rim. There is a Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake which opens around May 15 each year. The North Kaibab Ranger District has a Jacob Lake Campground and Kaibab Camper Village at Jacob Lake. The main Jacob Lake Campground will be closed for reconstruction throughout the 2007 visitor season. The Jacob Lake Campground group and picnic sites across the highway from the main campground will open May 15, 2007.
There are only three hotel facilities in the Jacob Lake and Grand Canyon north rim area for tourists. Jacob Lake Inn has 41 motel and cabin rooms. Kaibab Lodge has cabin
86 rooms. Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge inside Grand Canyon National Park
has 220 motel and cabin rooms.
The demand for hotel facilities in the in the Jacob Lake, Kaibab and Grand Canyon north rim is very high. Three months advance reservations are recommended.
